Forty Famous Cocktails, Two-Sided Mechanical Card with Movable Insert, John Boland, Engraver, Circa 1930: “Being a compendium of reliable recipes carefully compiled for use in this arid era. Engraved with humble apologies to that master engraver John Held Jr.” On the back card: “The path to perdition or a scene from the back room in the days when life was simple. With apologies and a toast to John Held Jr. master engraver.” See the little windows dye cut into the boxes near the top of the pages? You hold the card at the base and pull the tab at the very top of the page. On the front card, the name of the drink appears in the far left window, the ingredients in the next two windows, the instructions in the next, and a “reaction statement” appears in the last window. (Reverse the order for the back of the card.) is
The card measures 7 1/2″ by 11″. It has some general shelf wear, especially at the corners. It is lightly soiled. The pull tab at the top has general wear. The card functions perfectly. It’s colors are bright. It has no marks or tears. Great gift for a cocktail or bar book collector.
