Book of Famous Old New Orleans Recipes Used in the South for more than 200 Years: This cookbook was published by the Peerless Publishing Co., New Orleans, Louisiana. (This copy does not have a copyright date, but the copy on-line digitized from the Harvard says copyright 1900. It also says, “Printed for the Free French Movement, 633 Royal Street, New Orleans.) The cover says, “Over 300 Authentic New Orleans Creole Recipes Used by Good Cooks for Something Different.” Paper cover with plastic comb binding. No dust cover. 57 pages plus index and advertising. The book cover is lightly tanned at the top and bottom edges. The pages are all perfect. The comb binding is perfect.
The book has an excellent forward with superb cooking tips, including a very useful description of how to make a roux. Includes beverages like Creole Coffee and Cherry Bounce, plus soups, eggs and entrees, meat and poultry, vegetables, salads, and desserts. It also has lovely pen and ink illustrations, along with brief historical discussions. However, it does not have an author’s name.
