Bachay was the outdoor writer for the Janesville Gazette for 22 years and he had a outdoor life radio show on WCLO radio. He won many natural resource conservation awards. So, he had the background to write this book, as well as illustrate it. He includes several ways to create homemade smoking ovens. The chapters include game fish, rough fish, pickled fish, smoking fish, batter mixes, clams, crustaceans-crayfish, turtles, cottontail rabbit and hears, squirrel, raccoon – opossum, coot-crow-starlings, mushkrat-beaver, pheasant-grouse-partridge, ducks-geese, venison-deer-elk, bear, stuffing for wild game, hushpuppies, squash, salads, jelly and jam recipes, wine and other drinks.
