Betty Crocker’s Cookbook, 1969, 1972: Hardcover copy of this famous “red pie” cookbook. First published in 1969, this copy is from a later printing. Published by Golden Press, New York. 480 pages. This is a cook’s copy because of the cover. The corners are bent and worn, and the first few pages have light spots. Four of the pie chapter pages are a mess. However, the other pages are all completely perfect–all clean and clear. The binding is absolutely sound. The cover of this cookbook had some hard times. The interior is in nearly mint condition.I’m including an image of the back of the cookbook because it is fun. You can see, in General Mills’ brief history of Betty Crocker, the eight official portraits of Betty Crocker, from 1936, 1955, 1965, 1969, 1972, 1980, 1986, and 1996. We know that just looking at the cover of your mother’s Woman’s Home Companion Cook Book makes you feel good. Holding her Betty Crocker Cookbook, or her Better Homes and Gardens, or Good Housekeeping Cookbook in your hands is better than nostalgic. And cooking some of those dishes for your children will pass on a great tradition.
