Quail Eggs with Caviar from Les Diners de Gala

Quail Eggs with Caviar from Les Diners de Gala: Here’s one great recipe from Salvador Dali’s great cookbook. He tells the reader that this recipe was provided by Maxim’s, the famous French restaurant. Now, I have no idea where to buy quails eggs! If you do, here’s a recipe for them, accompanied by Dali sketches!

Yes, we have the cookbook. You can see it here: https://www.vintagecookbook.com/product/les-diners-de-gala-salvador-dali/

Les Diners de Gala by Salvador Dali: This copy of a splendid work of art–and a fantastic cookbook–is a first edition, first printing of the English edition of Les Diners de Gala, translated from the French by Captain J. Peter Moore. Published by Felicie, Inc., Publishers, New York, in 1973. Printed and bound in France. Oversized book with dust jacket in nearly mint condition. Some minor shelf wear at the edges and corners of both the book and the dust jacket. There’s a flamboyant inscription on the fly leaf. Other than that, all pages are clean and clear. The binding is perfect. 321 heavy, clay-coated pages, all with Dali art. Some of the art is quite pornographic.

Besides being beautiful (and disturbing) Les Diners is a serious cookbook. Besides the more traditional cookbook chapters, Dali’s cookbook includes a chapter on exotic dishes, one on snails and frogs, and an aphrodisiacs chapter. Lasserre, Maxim’s, la Tour d’Argent, and Le Buffet de la gare de Lyon contributed recipes.

      Hi Paul,

I’ve thumbed through the indices of the major antique cookbooks I have right now. Not a recipe for quail eggs! I’m sorry. I’d love to sell you something genuinely expensive!
