You see many different versions of Cobb Salad at restaurants, so it’s nice to have the definitive recipe. Cobb Salad from Brown Derby Cookbook, 1949, First Edition, First Printing

Brown Derby Cookbook, 1949, First Edition, First Printing: The 1949 first edition of this cookbook was published by Doubleday & Company. This copy is from that first edition, first printing. It is in excellent vintage condition, nearly mint. It has a limited amount of shelf wear on the cover. There’s no dust jacket. Hinges are perfect. Binding is solid. The 272 pages are all completely clean and clear. The first full chapter features “Specialties of the House,” including the recipe for the original Cobb Salad–invented at the Brown Derby.
The first Brown Derby was opened in 1926 in Hollywood, California. It was followed by a small chain of Los Angeles restaurants. This cookbook not only provides the Derby recipes, it gives some rich details about Hollywood history. For example, how “Marlene Dietrich shocked Hollywood by appearing at the Derby wearing slacks.”
