Brown Derby Cookbook, 1949, First Edition, First Printing:   This book has become a damaged copy of The 1949 first edition of this cookbook was published by Doubleday & Company.  This copy is from that first edition, first printing.  A customer bought it, then asked if she could return it. Of course I said yes. She returned it with the front, back and spine cover torn off the book. Why would someone do that? Anyway, if you would just like the recipes from the Brown Derby, this copy is for you. The text block is still in excellent vintage condition, nearly mint.  There’s no dust jacket.  Binding is solid.  The 272 pages are all completely clean and clear.  The first full chapter features “Specialties of the House,” including the recipe for the original Cobb Salad–invented at the Brown Derby.

The first Brown Derby was opened in 1926 in Hollywood, California. It was followed by a small chain of Los Angeles restaurants. This cookbook not only provides the Derby recipes, it gives some rich details about Hollywood history. For example, how “Marlene Dietrich shocked Hollywood by appearing at the Derby wearing slacks.”
