Settlement Cook Book, 1947 Edition, compiled by Mrs. Simon Kander, with tested recipes from the Milwaukee Public School Kitchens. Originally published by the Settlement Cook Book Co., Milwaukee, Wis. 623 pp. This is the cookbook with “The way to a man’s heart” at the top of the front cover. Everything from how to build a camp fire and stew rabbits (!) to “Ices, Frappes and Sherbets in Mechanical Refrigerators.” This copy was published in 1947, the twenty-eighth edition, revised and enlarged from the first edition, published in 1910. This copy is in nearly perfect condition. The hinges are perfect. The binding is solid. That chapter suffered some water drops, which wrinkled the pages. Otherwise, mint! Definitely gift quality!
