Plantation Cookbook, Jr. League New Orleans, 1972, First Edition, First Printing

Plantation Cookbook: This is the oversized, hard cover, first edition of The Plantation Cookbook, by the Junior League of New Orleans in 1972. The book was illustrated by M. Dell Weller, and it was published by Doubleday & Company, Inc., Garden City, New York. 223 elegantly printed pages on cream-colored paper.  First edition. First printing, no other being mentioned.  Dust jacket is in excellent vintage condition, with some small dings, especially at the corners. Book is in mint condition.  Binding is very tight.  Hinges are perfect.  Pages are clean and clear.

If New Orleans has the best cooking in the United States, and if Junior Leaguers can make a case for having the best recipes in their cities or regions, these recipes can’t be bettered. First half of the book has sketches of early plantation homes, plus two-page histories. Book was never used, never read! Definitely gift quality!
