Better Homes and Gardens Cook Book De Lux! 1944, with Key to Today’s Cooking Supplement

Better Homes and Gardens De Lux, 1944, with Key to Today’s Cooking Supplement.  This copy from the fifth printing in 1944.  It includes the 40 page Supplement by the food editors of Better Homes & Gardens Magazine, which taught home makers how to plan meals.  Published by the Meredith Publishing Company, Des Moines, Iowa.  Tab indexed.  Binder edition.

This copy is definitely a cook’s copy.  The hinges and spine cover have been repaired with transparent librarian’s tape.   While most of the pages are clean, many of them have been reinforced with those little white stick-on eyelets.  However, all of the recipes are here!

At we try to provide you with your mother’s cookbook! I know lots of current recipe bloggers write proudly that their recipes are “not from your mother’s cookbook.” We think the recipes in your mother’s cookbook provided food that was nutritious and warm and colorful and just plain yummy! We know that just looking at the cover of your mother’s Woman’s Home Companion Cook Book makes you feel good. Holding her Betty Crocker Cookbook, or her Better Homes and Gardens, or Good Housekeeping Cookbook in your hands is better than nostalgic. And cooking some of those dishes for your children will pass on a great tradition.
