In March 1940, Sunset Magazine launched its Chefs of the West column, asking their male readers to send in original recipes. The recipes were screened by Chef Gordon Goodwin and an all-male jury. The winning recipes were awarded tall chefs’ hats with a Chef of the West logo. Readers who submitted a second winning recipe were awarded a matching apron. The recipes in this book are all winners of that contest. The book contains a complete roster of the winners. Along with the traditional chapters like appetizers and soups, this cookbook has a twenty-page chapter on poultry, game and rabbits, as well as a chapter on curries.
