Black Gourmet, 1984, Joseph Stafford. First Edition, First Printing. Mint Condition.  Very difficult-to-find cookbook with the subtitle, “Favorite Afro-American Recipes from Coast to Coast.”  Illustrated by Sadie Graham.  Self-published by Stafford and printed by Harlo Printing Co., Detroit, Michigan.  Hard cover book with dust jacket.  Dust jacket has many dings and some stains.  It is now safely encased in Mylar.  The book itself has green, linen-covered boards and embossed gold title.  190 pages, every one clean and clear.  The binding is perfect, as are the the front and back hinges.  Stafford must have paid the printer well to have this book produced perfectly.  Unfortunately, he must not have sold very many copies, because very few are in circulation.  This mint condition book would be a great gift for the right person.

The dust jacket has a quotation from the Association of Black Chefs, telling us that Stafford operated restaurants in Chicago and Detroit for many years.  I wish I’d had the opportunity to dine at one of them.
