Sunset Easy Basics for Good Cooking, 1982. Stated First Edition, First Printing: If you have ever just flipped through a Sunset cookbook, you know how excellent they are. Always beautifully laid out, with great illustrations and crystal clear instructions. Easy Basics is no exception. Large format, hard back cookbook with wire comb binding. 192 pages. Published by Lane Publishing Co., Menlo Park, California. Stated first edition, first printing. Cover has some minor shelf wear. Some pages are a little wrinkled from a water spill. Otherwise, the pages are all clean and clear.
This is a limited comprehensive cookbook. There are chapters on soups, salads and dressings, eggs and cheese, meats, poultry, fish and shellfish, pasta, beans and grains, vegetables, breads, and desserts. It has charts of topics like emergency substitutions and meat roasting time and temperature. I think, however, the best parts of this cookbook are the special cooking tips on things like testing fish for doneness and frosting a layer cake. Here’s one of those tips on how to make flavored butter.
