New Lucile Cook Book, 1906, Acker, Merrall & Condit Company, Mail Order: Hard cover cookbook produced by the Acker, Merrall & Condit Company, a New York City mail order company that sold groceries, liquors, cigars and perfumery. I assume that the cookbook was given to good customers as a premium. Printed by the P. R. Warren Co., Boston. Acker, Merrall & Condit also had what we call now brick and mortar stores in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Maryland.
This cookbook is a presumed first edition, first printing copy, no other being mentioned. 303 pages, including several pages of advertising–many with great illustrations. Comprehensive list of recipes plus a chapter with “Forty Recipes of the ‘Four Hundred,’” people like Mrs. Grover Cleveland, Thomas Jefferson, Mrs. Theodore Roosevelt, and others. The condition of the cookbook is excellent antique condition. As you can see, the cover has shelf wear and staining. The spine cover has three gouges or holes in the linen covered boards. The hinges are exposed, but holding. The pages are completely clean and clear. The binding is firm.
