In fact, these pages are so clean, some of them haven’t been cut yet! Sewn folios. Binding is tight. Hinges are perfect.
Lucy Allen was yet another teacher a the Boston School of Cookery, following Fannie Farmer and Mrs. Lincoln. Her chosen recipes for this cookbook are distinctive at least partly by her presentation. I’m not sure if you can tell from this illustration, but the recipes aren’t set off on the page by blank space. They are pointed out by small titles printed in the margins by the text of the recipe. This cookbook also has 32 full page illustrations, taken from photographs. It must have been a very expensive cookbook to produce.
