Description

Book of the Camp Fire Girls, 1938, 1944. An Art Deco Masterpiece!  Nearly mint condition book with fabric-covered paper cover, and 248 pages, including some advertising.  All pages are clean and clear.  Binding is firm.  Hinges are perfect.  12-page chapter on outdoor cooking, including recipes, plus “a Thousand and More Things to Do,” also with cooking tips and recipes.  The book was published by Camp Fire Girls, Incorporated, 88 Lexington Ave., New York City, first in 1938.  This copy is from the 1944 printing.

The book explains the symbolism of its cover: it “combines the symbols for mountain and tree for work, the sun and rain for health and the heart and thought symbols for love.  The whole symbolizes Wohelo, the watchword of the Camp Fire Girls.”  Unfortunately, the book does not contain the name of the person who did all of this design work.    The art deco nature of the cover continues inside the book, with many pages of symbols standing for the teachings of the Camp Fire Girls.
