Description
Famous Sportmen’s Recipes, 1940, Jessie Marie DeBoth: Full title of this cookbook is Famous Sportsmen’s Recipes for Fish, Game, Fowl and Fixin’s. Compiled by cookbook author Jessie Marie DeBoth and apparently self-published by DeBoth in Chicago in 1940. First edition, first printing, no other being mentioned. This is a slim volume of 96 pages. Hard cover with embossed leather boards. The cookbook is in nearly mint condition, with the exception of an inscription on the fly leaf, saying “gift from author.” Every page is clear and clean. Hinges and binding are perfect.
The recipes are accompanied by small drawings, caricatures and cartoons, but there’s no attribution. (Some of the drawings are quite clever, some are sexist and some are racist.) The recipes are also signed by each contributor. The cookbook also has a chapter “For the Young Camper” with easy recipes, and a chapter “For the Homemaker” with suggested menus and recipes for fish, game, and wild fowl. This is a difficult-to-find rare cookbook.
