Description

Blueberry Hill Cookbook, Elsie Masterton, 1959, First Edition, First Printing:  Cookbook by Elsie Masterton, co-owner and cook at Blueberry Hill Farm, Brandon, Vermont.  Published by Thomas Y. Crowell Company, New York.  Hard cover with dust jacket.  302 pages.  First edition, first printing.  Dust jacket has many small dings.  Book has been read, but still the binding is sound, hinges are perfect, and pages are all clean and clear.

This is a truly great cookbook.  Masterton says she advertised Blueberry Hill Farm as having “nothing whatever to do” and “Lucullan food.”  I had to look Lucullan up.  It is an adjective meaning “(especially of banquets, parties, etc.) marked by lavishness and richness; sumptuous.”  And that describes these recipes.  There’s an enormous variety of rich food.  The recipes are easy to read and easy to follow, written in a conversational tone, often with little asides about ingredients or the type of equipment to use.  I love the fact that this is a restaurant cookbook that actually has recipes for leftovers!
