This cookbook has recipes for gumbos and soups, stuffings, dressings and jambalayas, rice and gravy, one dish meals or casseroles, meat, fish and vegetables, and Lagniappe.
Introductory note by Mary Alice Fontenot, area editor of the Opelousas (La.) Daily World, explains that Acadians are people who migrated to Louisiana from Nova Scotia during the 1700s. The original title for the book is Quelque Chose Piquante or “Something spicy.” Vidrine was the columnist for the Opelousas Daily World, writing the column, “Eunice Demi-Tasse.” Many of her recipes have the original cook’s name attached, and many of those recipes have newsy, gossipy asides–often very useful cooking tips.
