Archdeacon’s Kitchen Cabinet A Book of Receipts, 1876, First Edition, First Printing. Miraculously Mint Condition! Self-published in Chicago in 1876, this volume by William Archdeacon is in nearly mint condition. The cover is beautifully textured and embossed green leather with elaborately embossed gilt lettering for the title. The hinges are perfect. The binding is very tight. The 448 pages are completely clean and clear. At the back of the book are advertisements and excerpts from book reviews published in several Chicago newspapers.

On the title page, Archdeacon states the book is “for the manufacturing of pickles, preserves, jellies, syrups, sauces, Ketchups, vinegars, and canning of all kinds of fruits, vegetables, meats, fish, etc., etc.” That is the first half of the book. The reminder is for “other receipts of valuable improvements in house-keeping, cooking, the laundry, the toilet, the sick room, dietetic rules, family medicines, etc.”
