Picayune Creole Cook Book was originally published in 1900, then reprinted many, many times by the original publisher, Times-Picayune Publishing Company, New Orleans. This edition, published in 1987, is from the first Random House edition. It is not just a reproduction of the first edition. In 1987, in honor of the sesquicentennial, the newspaper engaged noted food writer and chef Marcelle Bienvenu to update and revise the cookbook. Working from the definitive 1901 second edition, Bienvenu and her staff sifted through more than a thousand recipes, with an eye toward creole classics and enduring favorites. They tested and selected more than 800 recipes for this volume. The book’s format places the recipe in the center of the page, with modern up-dates in the wide margins. Many photographs were added, selected from the newspaper’s archives, from the New Orleans Museum of Art, and from Newcomb Art Department, Newcomb College, Tulane University.

This is a large, dark red hard cover cookbook, complete with dust jacket, with 629 pages. Pages are all clean and clear. Binding is perfect. Both book and dust jacket are in as-if-new condition. Never used. Definitely gift quality. First edition, first printing.
