Marion Lockhart’s Standard Cook Book for All Occasions, 1925

Description

Marion Lockhart’s Standard Cook Book for All Occasions, 1925: Standard Cook Book, copyrighted in 1925 by J. H. Sears & Company, Inc., and printed at the Kingsport Press, Kingsport, Tennessee. Hard cover book deeply embossed, front and back, with advertisement for “Star Brand” and Poll Parrot Shoes, plus four pages of shoe advertisement at the front of the book, and four pages of advertisement at the back. One of the front pages says, “Marion Standard Cook Book for All Occasions . . . This book is paid for by the store that sells Louis Gluuz & Son, Chicago, Ill.”  I know all this from another copy of the cookbook.

The Standard Cook Book is a complete, comprehensive cookbook with 14 chapters and 117 pages, with recipes for everything from soup to nuts. Amazingly enough, even thought the paper isn’t of the highest quality, this book is in good antique condition. The binding is intact, the pages are all completely clean and clear.  However, the first few pages, including the title page and the copyright date, are missing from this copy.  The hinges are exposed, but holding.  The charming thing about this copy of the Standard Cook Book is the many additional recipes added to the book.  Recipes for dishes like Cottage Cheese Pie, Vegetable Soup, Pie Crust, Tuna Salad, something called Jeatrnicea, and more.
