Description

Best of Taste: Finest Food of Fifteen Nations, SACLANT-NATO: You know that old saying about the military having a bake sale? That’s what came to mind when we first found this cookbook, several years ago. It was compiled by the wives of men working at the Headquarters Supreme Allied Commander, Atlantic (SACLANT,) in Norfolk, Virginia. Recipes are from the 15 nations belonging to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in 1957, when the cookbook was published by the United States Naval Institute, Annapolis, Maryland. All proceeds went to a NATO charity. 244 pages. Hard cover with dust jacket. Illustrations by Tessa Cody. Dust jacket has some spots.  Book in excellent vintage condition. First edition, later printing. Definitely gift quality!

Best of Taste has recipes from the heads of the fifteen countries, wine information, recipes for hors d’oeuves and canapes, soups, seafood, meats, fowl and game, vegetables and salads, breads, casseroles, desserts. One unusual feature is the menus. Every country contributed several menus, many for special occasions, others for typical meals. See VintageCookbook.com’s Recipe section for Germany’s Christmas dinner menu and Norway’s Christmas Eve menu. Here: VintageCookbook.com
