Wines, Cocktails and Other Drinks, 1936, First Edition, First Printing, Frank A. Thomas: Stated first edition, first printing copy of Frank A. Thomas’s wine and cocktails book. (I understand from another source that “Frank A. Thomas” was a pseudonym for Frank Schoonmaker & Ted Marvel. Part of The Household Shelf series, first printing. Schoomaker and Marvel were nationally recognized wine experts.) Part one focuses on wine, treating wines country by country, giving a brief historical introduction for each, a list of available wines from that country, and a discussion of those wines by region, with a chapter on storing, serving, and drinking wine. The second part includes a dictionary of alcoholic beverages and a collection of recipes for cocktails, which is divided into sections depending on the base liquor, with drinks in each section in alphabetical order. Index follows text.
This first edition, first printing book is in excellent antique condition. The hardback cover has slight discolorations and stains and it has minor shelf wear. 228 pages are completely clean and clear. The binding is firm and the hinges are perfect. Great gift!
