Twig Cook Book, 1972, Wheeling, West Virginia, Reprinted from 1956 First Edition

Twig Cook Book: Compiled by The Popular Twig, a group of organizations working for the benefit of The Ohio Valley General Hospital, Wheeling, West Virginia. First published in 1956.  A comprehensive cookbook with 14 sections.  The heavy paper cover is in excellent vintage condition., with light shelf wear.   243 pages plus many pages of local advertising and many blank pages for recipes.  The plastic spiral binding is sound. The pages are uniformly tanned, but completely clean.  I don’t believe that this cookbook was ever actually used.

This cookbook is one of those vintage cookbooks that has taken on an almost mystical quality, and when you examine it you’ll see why. It has recipes you simply won’t see elsewhere, like Sally’s Crab Soup, Effie’s Apple Roll, Sherry’s Salad Dressing, Bertha’s Sponge Cake, and Verna’s Chocolate Cake, and they all sound delicious! I think this is the only cookbook we’ve had with a specific chapter on Hot Cakes and Waffles!
