Thoughts for Food, 1938, Nearly Mint Condition. Later Printing, Later Edition.

$38.00

Description

Thoughts for Food: Quite literary and definitely up-scale. Published in 1938, this copy is from the first edition, stated eighth printing published in 1943 by The Vanguard Press in cooperation with Institute Publishing Company, Chicago. Hard cover boards covered with tan linen. 323 pages of 125 menus and the recipes and other information necessary for bringing those menus to life. Compiled by a group of Chicago hostesses who don not list their names. (I wish they did. It would be fascinating.)

Lots of brunch, dinner and buffet dishes that sound–and should look-very high end. This is your book if you need to impress the boss! Later printing, later edition.

Nearly mint condition, with some very minor shelf wear to the cover. No dust jacket. Gift quality. See several of the sequel books in our Vintage Specialty Cookbooks department.

At VintageCookbook.com we try to provide you with your mother’s cookbook! I know lots of current recipe bloggers write proudly that their recipes are “not from your mother’s cookbook.” We think the recipes in your mother’s cookbook provided food that was nutritious and warm and colorful and just plain yummy! We know that just looking at the cover of your mother’s Woman’s Home Companion Cook Book makes you feel good. Holding her Betty Crocker Cookbook, or her Better Homes and Gardens, or Good Housekeeping Cookbook in your hands is better than nostalgic. And cooking some of those dishes for your children will pass on a great tradition.
