The Mansfield Cook Book, 1890, A Careful Compilation of Tried and True Recipes. Putnam, Connecticut

$140.00

Description

The Mansfield Cook Book, 1890, A Careful Compilation of Tried and True Recipes. Putnam, Connecticut:  108 page booklet compiled and published by W. H. Mansfield & Co., “The Grocers, Cor. Main and Pomfret Sts., Putnam. Conn.”  Printed in Putnam, Connecticut by the Patriot Press in 1890.  Includes several pages of entertaining advertisement, with excellent line-drawn illustrations, including large ads for Victor Flour.  Has a dark burgundy oilcloth cover.   Has recipes for bread, cake, cookies and gingerbread, candy, cold puddings, drinks, eggs, fish, hot puddings, meats, pies and pastries, pickles, poultry, salad, soups, sauces, and vegetables, plus the ever-popular “useful hints.”

This cookbook is in amazingly good condition.  The oilcloth cover has shelf wear, especially at the edges.  Binding is quite firm.  Pages are completely clean and clear.  Great gift for the Connecticut history buff, or for a lover of old grocery stores!

(I apologize for these images.  I didn’t want to hurt the binding.  All those strange reflections are my cookbook holders.)
