Description

Sunny South and Golden West Cook Book, Sarah Jane Freese, 1932: Charming comprehensive cookbook by Sarah Jane Freese “in charge of compilation and publication.” Printed by Burr Printing Company, Bangor, Maine. Freese charged $2.00 for this cookbook. She says (about that price) in her “In Acknowledgment” on the last page of the book, “Altho making it more expensive at the beginning, in reality, she is in hopes to make it profitable to the printers, to the users, and, in after years, to herself.”

Freese explains that she is 55 “at this writing,” she attended Fanny Farmer’s Cooking School and Miss Jessie De Bouth’s Cooking School. She started cooking at the age of 17 at Blackwell’s Cafe in East Boston and went on to cook at resorts, for private families, and she ended up as a pastry chef in Northeast Harbor.

This is a hard cover book with blue linen covered boards with 199 pages. Cover has shelf wear, especially worn corners and the top and base of the spine cover. Hinges are perfect. Binding is sound. Pages are all completely clean and clear. This cookbook is in excellent antique condition. Definitely gift quality.
