Spice Islands Cook Book, 1961, First Edition, First Printing: Colorful comprehensive cookbook by the Spice Islands Home Economics Staff. Published by Lane Book Company, Menlo Park, California in 1961. Stated first edition, first printing. Hard cover with dust jacket. 208 pages. Dust jacket has minor dings. Book is in mint condition. No problems at all. Definitely gift quality.
Spice Islands Cook Book, as you might suspect, includes a brief history of spices, as well as general instructions on how to use spices, lengthy discussions of all the major spices and instructions on how to use each. Interestingly, arrowroot is discussed and included in many recipes. Arrowroot isn’t included in most contemporary recipes. I have no idea why. I’ve been using it a lot lately in soups–and love it!
Spice Islands Cook Book is an excellent cookbook for the beginning cook or a more experienced cook who literally wants to spice up his or her cooking!
