Settlement Cook Book, 1946, Front Hinge a Problem, but Pages Completely Clean! This copy of the Settlement Cook Book is in astonishingly good condition! The front hinge is broken on the cover and inside the book. It has been mended with clear librarian’s tape. The rest of the cookbook is in great shape. The binding is solid and the pages are completely clean. This historic cookbook was compiled by Mrs. Simon Kander and published by the Settlement Cook Book Co., Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This copy is from the twenty-seventh edition, enlarged and revised, published in 1946. Again, every page is clean and clear. The front hinge was reinforced with clear librarian’s tape. I doubt if anyone ever used this cookbook. Hard cover with 596 pages, plus several pages of entertaining advertisements at the back. Definitely gift quality! Better than these images, actually, because there are smudges on the scanner! Yes, this is the “way to a man’s heart” cookbook!

At VintageCookbook.com we try to provide you with your mother’s cookbook! I know lots of current recipe bloggers write proudly that their recipes are “not from your mother’s cookbook.” We think the recipes in your mother’s cookbook provided food that was nutritious and warm and colorful and just plain yummy! We know that just looking at the cover of your mother’s Woman’s Home Companion Cook Book makes you feel good. Holding her Betty Crocker Cookbook, or her Better Homes and Gardens, or Good Housekeeping Cookbook in your hands is better than nostalgic. And cooking some of those dishes for your children will pass on a great tradition.
