Settlement Cook Book, 1945 Edition, compiled by Mrs. Simon Kander, with tested recipes from the Milwaukee Public School Kitchens. Originally published by the Settlement Cook Book Co., Milwaukee, Wis. 623 pp. This is the cookbook with “The way to a man’s heart” at the top of the front cover. Everything from how to build a camp fire and stew rabbits (!) to “Ices, Frappes and Sherbets in Mechanical Refrigerators.” This copy was published in 1945, the twenty-seventh edition, revised and enlarged from the first edition, published in 1910. This copy is a cook’ s copy. The hinges are exposed but holding. The spine cover is loose. The cover has darkened. Many of the pages are spotted and darkened. But the recipes are all here and the price is right!
