Settlement Cook Book, 1948 Edition, compiled by Mrs. Simon Kander, with tested recipes from the Milwaukee Public School Kitchens. Originally published by the Settlement Cook Book Co., Milwaukee, Wis. 596 pp. “The way to a man’s heart” at the top of the front cover. Everything from how to build a camp fire and stew rabbits (!) to “Ices, Frappes and Sherbets in Mechanical Refrigerators.” This copy was published in 1948, the twenty-nineth edition, revised and enlarged from the first edition, published in 1910. This is a cook’s copy, with librarian’s tape mends. But the pages are all clear, and the recipes are all here! About ten pages of fun advertising.
