Searchlight Recipe Book, Household Magazine, 1955 Cook’s Copy

Description

Household Searchlight Recipe Book: I don’t know when the cover of the Household Searchlight Recipe Book’s cover changed to the Searchlight Recipe Book, with the little Household symbol in the lower right hand corner. But, it did. This is the Searchlight Recipe Book, by The Household Magazine, from Topeka, Kansas. The title page still says The Household Searchlight Recipe Book, just not the cover. 320 pages of recipes from soup to nuts. Thumb indexed, with tabbed pages for categories like, “Fish and Wild Game” or “Icings and Fillings.” Cook’s copy.  The candy section has spots and some torn pages.  Tabs are bent.  And some child went wild with an ink pen on a few pages. But, the hinges are good, the binding is sound, and the recipes are all here!

At VintageCookbook.com we try to provide you with your mother’s cookbook! I know lots of current recipe bloggers write proudly that their recipes are “not from your mother’s cookbook.” We think the recipes in your mother’s cookbook provided food that was nutritious and warm and colorful and just plain yummy! We know that just looking at the cover of your mother’s Woman’s Home Companion Cook Book makes you feel good. Holding her Betty Crocker Cookbook, or her Better Homes and Gardens, or Good Housekeeping Cookbook in your hands is better than nostalgic. And cooking some of those dishes for your children will pass on a great tradition.
