Description

Rheingold Recipes: A Cook Book of Quality, 1912, S. Liebmann’s Sons Brewing Co.:  Difficult-to-find cookbook compiled by S. Liebmann’s Sons Brewing Co., makers of Rheingold Beer, intended to be given to “friends and patrons” as an appreciation.  This copy has printed on the cover “Compliments of Imperial Restaurant, 360 Fulton Street, Near Borough Hall,” so apparently Liebmann’s Sons gave copies to other businesses for distribution, as well.   The 1912 copyright was held by Felix Mendelsohn, Chicago publisher and printer.

The cookbook is in excellent antique condition.  It has a very heavy cardboard cover and a linen spine cover.  The front board has a lot of shelf wear, especially at the corners and edges.  (See images.)  224 pages.  The linen hinges are in perfect condition.  The binding is very firm.  The pages are completely clean.  They are uniformly tanned at the edges.  I don’t think a cook ever used this cookbook.  It got its shelf wear by being moved around someone’s kitchen.
