Description

Pyromaniac’s Cookbook, 1968, First Edition, First Printing: “The Best in Flaming Food and Drink.” “How to dazzle your guests with flambe cookery of every kind–appetizers, drinks, main courses, desserts, plus tips on entertaining. Possibly the most exciting cookbook since the discovery of fire.” Written by John J. Poister “[f]or people who like to play with fire.” Published by Doubleday & Company, Inc., Garden City, New York, in 1968. Hard cover book with dust jacket. 239 pages. Dust jacket has a variety of small stains and dings. Book is in as-if-new condition. Hinges are perfect. Pages are clear and clean. Cover is fine. Great gift!

Poister writes with humor and energy, with lots of local color and clever asides about great cooks. The recipes are about more than setting food on fire. There are recipes using spirits and flames to improve the flavor of foods. It includes great classic flaming cocktails, impressive party recipes, fancy barbecue recipes, flamboyant dessert recipes, and 26 recipes for lightening up your after dinner coffee. There’s also a glossary of flambé fuels.

This cookbook is quite a find, the first copy VintageCookbook.com has ever had. You can be sure I will copy some of these recipes before sending it to you.
