Practical Cook-Book, 1882, First Presbyterian Church, Meadville, PA: Revised and expanded edition of the cookbook the good ladies of the First Presbyterian Church first published in 1875. Hard cover book with dark green boards. 259 pages. Many additional recipes penciled in on the blank pages. This cookbook is in good antique condition. Front and back hinges have been mended with clear librarian’s tape. Title page and table of contents published in page are missing. Last page has torn-off corner. Binding is solid. Pages are all here. Some are spotted, especially in the cake and cookies chapters. All the normal chapters plus chapters on cookery for the sick, training servants, and a chapter called Miscellaneous that gives advice on everything from cleaning white kid boots to preparing skeleton leaves. I read the entire thing, and I still don’t know what skeleton leaves are.
This is an extremely rare cookbook. I can find no other copy on the Internet.
