North End Club Cook Book, Revised, 1905



North End Club Cook Book: A Collection of Choice and Tested Recipes, 1905, Chicago, Compiled and Arranged by the Ladies of the Club. Copyrighted in 1905 by the North End Club, Chicago. Printed by Fred. Klein Co., Chicago. 202 pages plus 43 pages of local Chicago advertisements, some of them very entertaining. Linen covered boards with an embossed soup pot and rising steam on the front. Cover is worn, with shelf wear, spots, and bumped corners. Hinges are partially exposed, but holding. Binding is firm, holding the text block steady. Text is printed on clay-coated paper. A very few pages have very minor spots. The majority of the pages are clear and clean. Good antique condition.

Recipes include appetizers, breads, cakes, frosting for cakes, chafing dish recipes, cheese and eggs, cheese, fish, ices and ice cream, meats, meat sauces, nuts, pastry, puddings, pudding sauces, preserves, pickles and sauces, salads, sandwiches, small cakes, soups vegetables, desserts, candy, and miscellaneous. My favorite chapter is, however, “Things Worth Knowing.” There’s a great recipe for rose syrup.
