Mrs. Curtis’s Cook Book, 1909, 1913: What a title! Household Discoveries: an Encyclopedia of Practical Recipes and Processes [plus] Mrs. Curtis’s Cook Book: a Manual of Instruction in the Art of Everyday Cookery. Both books were published in one volume, by the Success Company in 1909. This copy was printed in 1914. Household Discoveries was written by Sidney Morse, and Mrs. Curtis’s Cook Book was written by Isabel Gordon Curtis. Hard bound with embossed linen-covered boards and bright gilt title. 1024 pages. Lovely drawings! This cookbook is in excellent vintage condition. The cover has very little shelf wear. Binding is totally solid. Pages are completely clean and clear. Front hinge has been reinforced with clear librarian’s tape. This cookbook has never been read. It is gift quality.
The Household Discoveries portion of the book deals with all aspects of the household, from selection of furniture to choice of heating and lighting systems, to discussion of vinegar-barrel water filters, to understanding toothaches. It is the first 646 pages of the book. Mrs. Curtis’s Cook Book is a comprehensive cookbook with hundreds of recipes for everything from beverages to breads to soups to nuts. It concludes with recipes from the wives of the President, the Vice President, United States Senators and governors. It occupies the last 378 pages of the book.
