Mrs. Curtis’s Cook Book, 1909, 1913: What a title! Household Discoveries: an Encyclopedia of Practical Recipes and Processes [plus] Mrs. Curtis’s Cook Book: a Manual of Instruction in the Art of Everyday Cookery. Household Discoveries was written by Sidney Morse, and Mrs. Curtis’s Cook Book was written by Isabel Gordon Curtis. Both books were published in one volume, by the Success Company, the company that held the 1908 copyright for both books. The Household Discoveries portion covers everything from household furnishings and decoration to washing and ironing to tanning leather, to dentistry and hair dressing, to adhesives, paints and varnishes.
Mrs. Curtis’s Cook Book is a comprehensive cookbook, with the addition of appendices like Preparation of Vegetables for the Table by Maria Parloa. This copy of Household Discoveries has lovely embossed leather covered boards. The cover has very minor shelf wear, just on the tips of the corners of the cover. All of the 1205 pages are in clean and clear condition. The binding is in excellent antique condition. The hinges are perfect. The marbling on the page ends is perfect! Lovely drawings! This is a early edition of a very handsome, famous cookbook in great condition. A very very “antique cookbook” looking. Great gift!
