Mary Dunbar’s Favorite Recipes, Jewel Tea Company: Many companies have a fictional woman–a cook or a homemaker, a mother or a grandmother–as their “front man.” Betty Crocker is, of course, the most famous of the “cookbook ladies.” Mary Dunbar was the front woman for the Jewel Tea Company, a company out of Barrington, Illinois. The Jewel Tea Company was a direct marketing company, employing a fleet of men and trucks who called on homemakers once every two weeks with groceries and other product. Mary Dunbar’s Favorite Recipes is the free cook booklet the truck-driving merchant would give to his customers. There’s no date on the booklet. 80 pages. Excellent vintage condition.
