Joy of Cooking, Rombauer, 1946, First Printing

Joy of Cooking: Excellent copy of the 1943 edition. Apparent first printing, no other being mentioned.  This is the volume with Irma Rombauer’s beautifully written 1943 Preface, where she says, “My daughter says that when my book is praised I purr like a cat. Perhaps I do, I can’t help it for I am a fortunate woman.” Rombauer’s daughter, Marion Rombauer Becker, is officially listed as the illustrator in this volume. (She wasn’t mentioned earlier.) Published by Bobbs- Merrill Company, Indianapolis. Hard bound with the blue and white lattice binding. 884 pp. This cookbook is in good vintage condition. The cook who used it wore the dust cover out, as you can see, but she was very tidy. All the pages are spotless!

If your sister, your mother, your friend, or your colleague asks you where you found this hard-to-find, out-of-print vintage cookbook, please tell him or her:!
