Husband’s Cookbook, Mike McGrady, 1979

Husband’s Cookbook, Mike McGrady, 1979: Fun and funny cookbook written by a professional author who wrote The Kitchen Sink Papers, an account of his life as a househusband, and the “Husbnad’s Cookbook” column, syndicated to leading newspapers in the United States. Hard cover with dust jacket. 228 pages. Published in 1979 by J.B. Lippincott Company, New York. Both book and dust jacket are in as-in-new condition. Definitely gift quality. First edition, first printing.

In this very clever cookbook, McGrady has 52 chapters with 52 menus for 52 meals, meals with main dishes like roast beef with horseradish sauce, Ernest Hemingway’s Gazpacho, and barbecued shish kabab. Each chapter begins with the staples needed to cook the meal, and a shopping list for ingredients needed. Every menu comes with a “prepare in advance” section and a chronological timeline with details on what to do when. Actually, this is a really good cookbook. My favorite line? “The Proper Time to Serve Dinner: Between games.”
