Fannie Farmer Cookbook, Thirteenth Edition, 1996

Description

Fannie Farmer Cookbook, Thirteenth Edition, 1996: Marion Cunningham’s 1990 revised and enlarged edition of the Fannie Farmer Cookbook. Thirteenth edition, published by Alfred A. Knopf, New York. Hard cover with no dust jacket.  Hinges in excellent condition. Pages are completely clean and clear. A large, hardcover book with 876 pages and a very clean, clear layout. If I wanted a copy of Fannie Farmer to actually cook from, rather than to appreciate as an historic artifact, this is the edition I would use. Cunningham definitely modernizes Fannie; for example, there’s a chapter on Frozen Foods, with suggestions on owning and maintaining a freezer. Since Fannie Farmer’s original version of The Boston Cooking-School Cook Book was published in 1896, and since refrigerators for the home were not invented until 1913, I’m sure Fannie Farmer could only dream about the use of refrigeration!

If your sister, your mother, your friend, or your colleague asks you where you found this hard-to-find, out-of-print vintage cookbook, please tell him or her: Vintagecookbook.com!

At VintageCookbook.com we try to provide you with your mother’s cookbook! I know lots of current recipe bloggers write proudly that their recipes are “not from your mother’s cookbook.” We think the recipes in your mother’s cookbook provided food that was nutritious and warm and colorful and just plain yummy! We know that just looking at the cover of your mother’s Woman’s Home Companion Cook Book makes you feel good. Holding her Betty Crocker Cookbook, or her Better Homes and Gardens, or Good Housekeeping Cookbook in your hands is better than nostalgic. And cooking some of those dishes for your children will pass on a great tradition.
