Burke’s Complete Cocktail Drinking Recipes: The full title of this famous small book is Burke’s Complete Cocktail & Drinking Recipes with Recipes for Food Bits for the Cocktail Hour. It was written by Harman Burney Burke, aka Barney Burke, and it was first published in 1934 by Books, Inc., New York and Boston. (First edition was issued in 1934–the same year–with a green cloth cover.) This 1936 copy is in nearly mint vintage condition. Pages are all clean and clear. Hand stitched binding is in excellent, solid condition. The green cloth-covered boards have a slight bit of shelf wear.
Burke’s Complete Cocktail & Drinking Recipes has a second subtitle, The Art and Etiquette of Mixing, Serving and Drinking Wines and Liquors. Book measures 6 1/4″ high by 4 1/4″ wide, and it has just 93 pages, but in this relatively small space, Burke manages to cover many cocktails and drinks not mentioned in other sources (like the Bouncer Cocktail and Evening Shades,) but also World Famous Drink Recipes, the Etiquette of Drinking, selection of Wines, the Alcoholic Content of Wines and Liquors, plus his “Food Bits” for the Cocktail Hour, Luncheon and Late Evening Snacks, Canapes, Lobster Choices, Rarebits, and Sandwiches!
