Betty Crocker’s Cookbook, 1969, later printing: hardcover copy of this famous “red pie” cookbook. First published in 1969, this copy is from the 1975 nineteenth printing. Published by Golden Press, New York. 480 pages. This copy is in nearly pristine condition. The cover has some superficial shelf wear–very minor. With the exception of the chocolate cake page, the pages are all completely perfect. The binding is absolutely sound. Definitely gift quality! (The cake page has a light smudge.)
I’m including an image of the back of the cookbook because it is fun. You can see, in General Mills’ brief history of Betty Crocker, the eight official portraits of Betty Crocker, from 1936, 1955, 1965, 1969, 1972, 1980, 1986, and 1996. Here’s the link: www.generalmills.com/~/media/Files/history/hist_betty.pdf. Did you know that PBS did an episode of the History Kitchen all about Betty Crocker? Here’s that link: http://www.pbs.org/food/the-history-kitchen/who-was-betty-crocker/
At VintageCookbook.com we try to provide you with your mother’s cookbook! I know lots of current recipe bloggers write proudly that their recipes are “not from your mother’s cookbook.” We think the recipes in your mother’s cookbook provided food that was nutritious and warm and colorful and just plain yummy! We know that just looking at the cover of your mother’s Woman’s Home Companion Cook Book makes you feel good. Holding her Betty Crocker Cookbook, or her Better Homes and Gardens, or Good Housekeeping Cookbook in your hands is better than nostalgic. And cooking some of those dishes for your children will pass on a great tradition.
