Beaches Historical Cookbook, The Beaches Area Historical Society, 1982, First Edition, First Printing: We love cookbooks with an historical conscious, and this cookbook is made to order! It was produced by The Beaches Area Historical Society, Inc., representing Mayport, Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, Jacksonville Beach, Ponte Vedra Beach, and Palm Valley, Florida. The Historical Society was organized in 1978, and it looks like this cookbook was one of its first projects. It was copyrighted in 1982, and printed by the Hartley Press, Inc., Jacksonville, Florida. This copy is from the stated 1982 first printing. It is in excellent vintage condition. Paper cover, with plastic comb binding, and tabbed dividers. 377 pages. The cover has lots of shelf wear and the tabs are a little bent. Pages are all clean and clear.
Each tabbed divider features the history of a local hotel, with lots and lots of local color. Did you know that the celebrated Col. Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders attended dances at the Murray Hall Hotel in Jacksonville? And that the Duke of Windsor, former King of England, was entertained at Le Chateau on Atlantic Beach.
