Description

Back to Square One: Old-World Food in a New-World Kitchen:  Cookbook written by Joyce Goldstein, owner and chef of San Francisco restaurant Square One.  First edition, first printing of cookbook published by Willliam Morrow and Company, Inc., New York, in 1992.  This is a large, heavy cookbook with 420 pages.  It is in mint condition.  The dust cover is in near-mint condition, with just some very minor bumps at the edges.  I think this copy is signed, although I can’t validate the signature–see image.

Goldstein introduces her book with this statement: “Recipes are the artifacts of a people’s culture.  They are a country’s ethnic identity transcribed in food. . . . Recipes tell you about people, how they lived, what they grew, what was deemed special for holidays and festivals, what was readily available to them for everyday sustenance.”
