Aunt Caroline’s Dixieland Recipes: A Rare Collection of Choice Southern Dishes: Cookbook compiled by Emma and William McKinney, who write in the Foreward: “The following recipes have, with great patience and kindly preseverance, have been drawn from the treasured memories of Aunt Caroline Pickett, a famous old Virginia cook. The cookbook was published by Laird & Lee, Inc., Publishers, Chicago, in 1922. Hard cover book with gingham-covered boards and a paper printed with the title and Caroline Pickett’s picture pasted over the gingham. 148 pages. This cookbook is unusual in that every other page is left blank, labeled at the top, “Milady’s Favourite Recipe.” First edition, first printing.

This copy of is in good antique condition. The cover has shelf wear, especially at the corners and edges. The hinges are split, but the binding is holding. Three or four recipes are hand written on the “Milady” pages. A few pages are spotted–in the cake chapter, of course. The remaining pages are clean and clear. The binding is sound. This cookbook is quite rare. A great find!
