American Women’s Voluntary Services Cook Book: A Book for Wartime Living, 1942: This is the cookbook that was compiled and published by American Women’s Voluntary Services, the largest American women’s service organization in the United States during World War II (WWII). It was self-published by the AWVS in 1942 out of California, using the Recorder-Sunset Press, San Francisco. The cookbook has a heavy paper cover and a wire comb binding. The 190 pages have recipes from the units in London, New York, San Francisco, Denver, Atlanta, Wilmington, Hollywood, Santa Fe, Houston, New Orleans, Wichita, Camden, and Valley City, North Dakota. Some unique features of this cookbook include gender-divided recipes for sandwiches and and hints for “The War Bride’s Cooking.”
This cookbook is in excellent vintage condition. The cover has some significant shelf wear. The binding is firm and the pages are all completely clean and clear.
