Alice’s Restaurant Cookbook, 1969, Complete with Arlo Guthrie’s Record: Alice’s Restaurant Cookbook, by Alice May Brock, with recorded introduction by Arlo Guthrie. Stated first edition, third printing, 1969. Published by Random House, Inc. Oversized hard cover. Tattered dust jacket. Book is in nearly like-new condition. It has minor shelf wear along the top and bottom edges. Corners are bumped. Pages are all completely clean and clear. Hinges are perfect, as is the binding. And the record is still at the inside back of the book. It is NOT “You can get anything you want at Alice’s Restaurant.” It is “Italian-Type Meatballs” and “My Granma’s Beet Jam.”
If you look back on the Sixties fondly, or if you like Sixties history, or if you love comfort food, or if you are an ace book collector, you will love this book. Enthusiastically written text, terrific hippie photography. (Alice was gorgeous!) Comfort food recipes. Lots of 60s sounding cooking tips. Alice May Brock did her own illustrations, and they are a stitch.
