Presbyterian Cook Book, 1892: I don’t know why some church fund-raising cookbooks are wonderful (as opposed to some that are boring.) I suppose it has something to do with the congregation, or with the cookbooks’ editor bringing out the personality of the contributors. Or something. Presbyterian Cook Book, published in 1892 in Dayton, Ohio, is full of personality and lively recipes; it is a great cookbook. Just read this recipe for Bean Soup; it is pure poetry!
In 1892, Grover Cleveland was President of the United States, and the first women’s basketball game was played at Smith College.
